Stag Beetle 1.1

2004-2-14

Stag beetles might be the most or at least second most studied insect in origami (First being the Samurai Helmat Beetle). I found a picture of one ( here) I liked how the pinchers were long and thin, unlike other origami stag beetles I had seen. I sketched out a crease pattern and got to work. This model was folded from 6" Japanese foil.

This model's production key was that the tail be long and that the monkey have fingers to grip a branch as monkeys usually do. Box-pleating allowed for both. The paper is divided into 32nds.
